HRC 1 will lower to 4 cal/cm² allowing some other commonly available materials to qualify for HRC 1 such as 4.5 oz/yd² Nomex IIIA and light weight Nomex Rayon Blends.
Updates to NFPA 70E standards.
August 2003 Below
1.
A major change to the standard will be in the order of the three parts: Part I "Installation Safety Requirements for Electrical Installations" will become Part III, Part II will become Part I and Part III will now be Part II.

The intention of this change is to make the NFPA 70E consistent with the NEC 2002 standard.
2.
No changes will be made to the " Hazard Risk Category Table"
3.
No additional risk categories will be added, i.e. Risk Category 4 remains the highest.

Members of the panel feel that there are additional risks associated with arc blasts of greater magnitude that are not addressed in this standard and did not want to condone putting worker in front of such blast.
4.
The requirements for multiple layered garments are removed. FR fabrics development has outpaced the development of the standard. In the past, a multiple layered garment was a necessity, but today we can use a more comfortable single layer garment that offers equal protection.
5.
The will be a Hot Work Permit requirement.
The panel feels that this requirement will reduce the number of jobs where electricians work on energized equipment. It will become the responsibility of the supervisor to make the decision if hot work is justified or not.
Other minor changes will also be made that should make reading and understanding the standard easier.
